Truth reduces everything to life, destroying all else along the way. If Truth destroys you, it is not from a destructive nature but by the all-powerful nature of Absolute Life. All that is not of Truth is thereby dead to life and dies forever as Truth passes through it.

Truth is a two-edged sword; all that lives, lives by truth, and all that is dying dies by truth the same. Truth will someday destroy you, but only if when passing through your dying self it does not first reside within your heart. All things reducible reduce back unto truth, yet all that is not dies forever in truth’s absence, continually, forever. Apart from Jesus Christ – the Living Truth, source of eternal life – nothing lives, and dies an ongoing conscious eternal death, an agonizing anti-life, forever.
Truth Behind Reality 
Another great thought that just grows legs in my mind and keeps running, Todd. The idea of truth as a destroyer is not one we think about often, but we need to confront it. We know that when Jesus returns he will be dressed in red and it will not be pretty for those who have allowed themselves to become filled with untruth. Just as radiation or chemical treatments targeted at a tumor can kill a cancer patient as “collateral damage”, those who have resisted “cleansing the inner vessel” will find their spiritual survival compromised. Too many procrastinate the day of their repentance, thinking that God will always forgive. Maybe he will, and it’s not my place to judge how far that forgiveness will extend, but at what cost? Is the dance with sin and untruth worth the spiritual growth and development missed by years of abstinence from truth and discipline?
“Truth will someday destroy you” is a positive statement when referring to “you” as the natural man, the floater on the river of least resistance, the worshiper of animal nature. That being must be slain by truth and replaced by the New Man, the being of the spirit. Only by Christ can this powerful death and resurrection take place. Everything Jesus taught (truth) is in opposition to what people are “inclined” to do naturally, which is why Christianity is increasingly scoffed at as an unrealistic and hypocritical theology. If you live in resistance to truth, it’s hard to imagine other people living in harmony with it. You might think that those “holier than thou” people are secretly violating their own code and sinning just as much as you are. After all, we’ve seen the downfall of the TV Evangelists and the exposure of corrupt politicians associated with the Christian right wing.
“All things reducible reduce back unto truth..” — I see the truth in that. I see God as allied with or representative of a force for expansion in the universe, the very power that builds and destroys galaxies, recycling the raw materials to create new worlds. Untruth, or the power given to Lucifer, on the other hand, is the chaotic force of atrophy, an attempt to resist and deny that ultimately acts as a positive resistance to God’s power. In other words, truth only grows stronger through opposition because opposition allows truth ground to blossom in, and light always shines most brightly where it is dark.

Revelation 19:11-13 says, [11] “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. [12] His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. [13] He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.”
Michael, I have read this passage many times, but for some reason didn’t associate his blood-dipped robe with him being dressed in red. I’m glad you mentioned this.

This is a great analogy. Cancer cells exist only at the expense of the whole body. They exist for one reason, to kill what is currently alive, not build it up as do living cells. Sin exists for one reason, to rob us of life. As your analogy infers, if Jesus’ living truth is not in us when he wipes out our sin (the cancer), we will surely die also. Truth only destroys what is not living.

Excellent statement! I was thinking this same thought when writing this post. The Apostle Paul says in II Corinthians 5:17-19, [17] “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. [18] All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; [19] that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.” He also says in Romans 6:2-4, [2] “…How can we who died to sin still live in it? [3] Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? [4] We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
Our old self necessarily dies when Jesus takes up residence in our heart. The sin that robs us of life is put to death. Therefore, we need to guard against the subtle return of that life-robbing cancerous sin.

An interesting distinction exists between truth and untruth. Truth is strong and powerful whether dealing with untruth or not. Untruth (your cancer analogy) grows weak and dies in the absence of truth. However, we humans grow strong in truth with every adversity we face. Not that adversity itself makes us (or truth within us) stronger, but that adversity forces us to open our self to truth all the more. Thus, truth’s power increases within us. Otherwise, adversity would overtake us.
Someday, when we receive our new sinless bodies and desire to sin no more, we will have no more adversity, only Christ’s awesome unbridled power living within and through our whole being, forever. Man, I look forward to that day.
